Have you ever felt genuinely lonely or out of place? That feeling you get when you call or text but no one answers… EVER. That feeling you get when everything is changing… but you’re still the same person. Honestly, I get that feeling almost every day and I’m not afraid to admit that. I came home for summer break being so excited to be with my friends again, only to find out that it just wasn’t the same. They weren’t as excited to rejuvenate the relationships we had. For most people, however, it is terrifying to admit that you, an amazingly funny, wonderful person, could ever feel lonely, left out, or out of place. Trust me, it took me a while to be okay with it. It took me a while to realize that I’m not unwanted or a puzzle piece in the wrong box, we just unfortunately live in a world that moves so fast we can’t even see who we’re with and what we’re doing. Time moves so fast you don’t even understand how your friend groups shifted, when you started to like that artist you hated, or how you’re watching season 10 of a show that just started. I could never understand how those people I had so close could shift so quickly. People change, things change, the clock is always ticking. It’s tempting to try and catch up with how fast everyone is going. Stay you, be you. Your personality doesn’t change as quickly as you think it does, we force it to. Be comfortable with who you are in this time period and move as slowly as you want to. Your personality, likes, and dislikes are the only things that can truly make you who you are. If you switch them up for the sake of time, then who really are you? Don’t be afraid to be stuck in an old time period if it’s truly what you love. Don’t be afraid of losing friends to time, it’s natural.
